It’s not just about beauty without brains to create fashion.

She was made for beauty and fashion than being a teacher, Lydia cutler who trained in education in Australia after her dad felt it was more respectable than her dream of taking up a career in fashion design is now living her dream.

Lydia’s beauty and fashion has been a passion frowned upon her from a young age in her country of birth Kenya. after moving to Aberdeen also known as the Granite city, the Australian trained teacher in 2008 responded to her calling by joining the fashion industry where she worked in the side-lines.

She started showcasing her collection around the world until in 2013 when she saw a need for promoting beauty and fashion in Aberdeen and this led her to start Aberdeen fashion week.

Shamiso Robertson who works in Business management and moved to Aberdeen after working in fashion in Dubai said: “Lydia is a very loving person and always smiling and she started Aberdeen fashion week which has not just grown over the years but it has also changed the face of fashion in our city, to me she empowered me when I moved to the UK the most important thing I have learned from her is the importance of social networking.”

Away from her passion, Lydia looks after orphans and street kids in the remote parts of Kenya by offering educational support and helping vulnerable children through her charity she has set up with her family.

She said that “My parents have supported me so much in everything that I have achieved from when I was a teacher until the day my career changed from education to fashion, my eye for starting the first-ever Aberdeen fashion week came after seeing that Europe’s capital city of Oil and Gas industry which has many advanced engineers has been lacking behind in fashion so this led me to start the first-ever Aberdeen fashion week which I never thought would be well received by lots of people”.

A good entrepreneur is someone that sees a problem and decides to become the solution to the problem.

Lydia has been described by some to be a game-changer with a diverse business mind that only her eyes can see that window of opportunity.

Angela Thouless an award winning creative artist in painting said, “She is a very strong woman driven by bringing change not just in beauty and fashion but in many areas of society I have exchanged ideas with her and one idea she gave me led me to my paintings being the highlight of the Amsterdam cultural festival Lydia has shown that through hard work and focus anything is possible for women.”

For anything to grow it takes time and patience and Lydia has shown perseverance in whatever passion you have regardless what career paths you take while at University.
